Forum - feedback
competition: votings
page: 1 2
Okay, I finally included some feature to vote. Everyone has exactly one vote to give, voting is possible for everyone logged when the deadline to submit maps is over. There is no time limit though, so it would still be possible to change the results of older motw votings...which would not really matter anyway, that is why i did not bother. You can change your vote anytime, just pick another map and your vote will be transfered from one map to the other.

I hope this system helps, it is not as exact as the 3-way vote we have manually, but I did not feel like programming this ;)

Great Work! I think a better way of selecting the maps each week would be good too, right now there are just too many. Especially since everyone only has 1 vote.
2006, 09, 12 09:59
It's cool, but I believe original system of unanonymous voting is quite better... although it leads to confusion as it did this week
2006, 09, 12 11:36
Tried it out :p

Are you sure that everyone really has only 1 vote? :p

I guess you allow 1 vote per account, but what if I make a second account? ;)
You could give some sort of voting-rights to certain accounts manually so that it is not possible to make several accounts, but that would result in lots of work, especially when you have to decide who will get voting rights...

*just some thoughts...

that is exactly what I do not want, because of the problems you mentioned. That is why such a voting system can not be the 100% solution for the voting process, abusing would be possible if someone really feels like doing so. But really, who is that childish here?
2006, 09, 12 14:55
me probably
2006, 09, 12 14:58
well if you make a new account and you vote in the motw thread, i think we begin to suspect
2006, 09, 12 15:30
Not with the new voting system, it will be anonymous... Well, you could always suspect the creator of the map that profits from the abuse, but who can tell if it is not someone completely unrelated...

Well, I won't abuse - especially because I am too lazy to make new accounts :p

hm, sounds good to me, although i didn't mind the old system.

(as for the abuse, my reason's the same as spines', im waaay to lazy x_X )
2006, 09, 12 19:34
panschk can we limit voting to specific users like i mentioned in our conversation? common users like lnept, NoPants, spinesheath, Nightmarjoo, etc.. and new comers need to ask permission for voting? this could stop abusers and allow the more experienced members/veteran members to cast their vote?
2006, 09, 12 21:09
I guess he already said that he doesn't want to do all that work ;)
2006, 09, 12 21:24
wtf why are the comments jumping around in the motw threads? ScoutWBF's comment keeps being pushed to the bottom in MOTW37 thread and i just left a comment in the MOTW38 thread, and it was pushed up towards the start of the thread.. what is going on? :/
2006, 09, 12 21:28
its just a bug in the coding...
2006, 09, 12 23:25
i prefer it to be fixed if possible :D
2006, 09, 13 00:25
there was an "order by" missing. fixed now ;)

Also on the very bottom of the page, you can see who voted which map. that way, abuse can be spotted more easily.
2006, 09, 13 16:18
that's a good idea - you are able to see how many abuse-accounts (hopefully none, I don't suspect anyone on here to abuse) voted. Can you undo the votes of such accounts? I think then there won't be any abuse at all (except maybe for some idiots stopping by on this page), even if there were some evil minds on this page :p

Ah I just saw it in the old MotW competition. I don't see a possibility to effectively abuse now ;)

the voting system will probably decrease MOTW quality. random newbs without skill or experience can vote, and they come here in larger numbers than the old core with skilled mappers. with the unanonymous system you could still ignore the obvious mis-choices...
2006, 09, 15 15:22
maybe admins could vote two times? - that would strengthen the skilled old ones versus abuses or so
2006, 09, 15 20:39
I don't think that "Admin" makes you better than any other member. Yes, you invest more time, but your mapping/judging skill not necessarily has to be better. I don't want to say anything against the Admins (am not even sure about who is admin, I know of some, but probably not all). I just think that there are non-Admins that are experienced as well.
Me, especially :p

Well, it's not anonymous, because the votes are listed at the bottom. You can always sort out the votes that are not sooo good. But that's a task that needs some wise judgement...
2006, 09, 15 21:00
now two unknown member voted for desert flower, so it will win by mainly newbie-votes and bias (grig)

i know that admins are not better or so, but we can avoid these situations imo

switch the suggestion from "admins" to "chosen users who have proven knowledge and a certain ability"
