Before people make judgements about this map, I must say that the corner expansions are for Zerg balance (Slow Drop Fast Expand), and the two nearby expansions are for Zerg macro balance since they will need the double expand to do well. From my research I think more Islands = more balance as far as Island Maps are concerned.
My friend made this map, Methical, and I am hoping to use it in a cash prize island map tournament @ Iccup. Can someone please edit the water parts in the middle to fill it in so it is complete? If noone is willing, what do you recommend I fill in empty spots with? The frequence of water only without doodads is to make it easier to watch the minimap for incoming air units/drops. |

The concept is decent, but the execution is awful, and it is far from even being considered a beta map. You have too many straight lines everywhere. Not only that, but the maps is not symetrical from what I can tell.
I recomend reading the articles in the articles section on the right ->
Also, don't take criticism on this site too hard, people here are going to be blatently honest with you if there's something wrong. I'd rather you have you have an incomplete map than have a crappy "finished" one and walk away not having learned something.
Also, my personal rule (don't make island maps) they just tend to suck. |

Actually, that small island helps terran more than any other race by a significant amount. It takes a while to develop air technology in starcraft, so island maps give players an opportunity to make economic expansion without fear of being punished by an aggressive rush type build. For example, a terran can go 14cc and simply land the command center on the small corner island. Then the terran can build turrets or w/e to stay safe, since there is no risk early game for being punished for such a bold economic strategy.
I would suggest you put either a mineral block or neutral creep providing building at the corner island expos.
