Take andromeda as an example, 3 things make this map differant.
1. min only inside of main base
2. Unbuildable wide open center
3. Expo in middle of map.

I'm looking for some guidance but it seems all the comments I get are from people glancing at it.
It plays quite well 1v1 and 2v2 for me and my friends, but they all tell me its good because they are my friends, but they aren't mappers and they don't see the things that could make the map better, they just look at what it is.
I remember back when there was a Pimp My Map thing going on, I would be willing to see if someone can try something with my map to make it better and help me become better.
I spent lots of time on these maps and thus far have gotten little help :'( modified by Allstar4 | Manhattan | | | Probably because your map has no concept to improve on.
It's not bad, it's really not, but with symmetry tools, standardized gameplay, and great maps to look at for a base, it's become relatively easy to make a map like this.
All you did here is change gas at a couple expos.
Hell, you might as well have just tileset change-tool'd this and edited deco a little bit.
Here's problems with your map:
1: Expo placement. Minonlies are okay, but the middle expos seem sort of cramped, and Terran can manipulate that strongly. I understand that there's no other paths across to stop the "horizontal positions problem" that plague all "four-corners" maps. It's a poor way to fix the fact that there's a difference in distance like that.
2: Racial balance I won't get into, but I'm sure zergs will complain about there not being enough gas and even though it's relatively open, there's not enough separate directions to flank with.
3: Straight lines. I understand that prettiness doesn't matter or affect gameplay. I understand that it doesn't make your map worse than anything else, really. But your map is nothing special, and I mean this in the nicest way possible. Any experienced mapper could do the same thing pretty quick. It's like you just went like "base, nat, min-only over a bridge. Awesome concept, time to mirror it."
If I wanted to play a standard map, I'd play something pretty. Things don't have to be rotational, but that seems to be the standard nowadays.
Anyway, I'm just saying you don't use space very well. You mirror a standard setup, and put a giant choke in the middle of the map. This just isn't something special that people will play over anything else. |
