flaming is a big problem in bwmaps.net. We usually flame the mapper, not the map. I think more than 50% (including me) of the mappers are bm so, I've decided to leave the site. So see you and fu all!
...I think a lot of people here like to speak as if their word is the absolute most unarguable thing anyone has ever heard. It's ALWAYS a mappers choice whether they think you're right or not and want to edit their map with your suggested change. I can name one or two mappers around here who always give advice I think is terrible, but give so much of it you almost feel bad.
I think people just take things too seriously here. You comment their map and they take it personally for some reason. Or you comment their map and they flame you. I thought the idea of the site was so people could tell you what they liked and disliked about your maps lol.
I don't do it as much as I used to, but I used to try to always say both good things and bad things about maps when I comment, and tried to comment about as much as I possibly could. I've gotten lazy and people stopped appreciating my comments, so I don't really do that often. It's kind of disheartening to take up half an hour if not longer of your time to look at a map and write a big long comment if the mapper won't care =/
Also I wish people who've been mapping here for a while would stop expecting their maps to be gosu as soon as they post them. I swear, Radix uploaded that space map the other day, and I couldn't tell it was his. He's been here a while and posted so many better maps, it was like wtf. So I told him it was a garbage map, and he freaked out. There's no need for me to write a page long comment on Radix's new shit map, because he's been here long enough that he should already know what's bad and what's good about his map. If he had asked me to explain why I didn't like it, I probably would; he decided to try and flame me instead, as if I care, lol.
I think what Starparty means by elitist is how many mappers here don't listen to what their fellow mapping peers say at all. Now, just cuz someone says something doesn't mean it's right, but I think mappers should think about every comment and explain why they think it's valid or invalid =/ That way, they get to know their map better. Every fuckup on a map is something you'll remember and improve on in your next map.
People think they're all mapping gods :(
Spines, I never say my maps are great, I always mention issues in them, and never push them for motm, the exception being Angband 3600 ft. 1.2. Do I always edit my maps? No, but I also don't disagree that they have issues. If I thought they were perfect I would put them in motm and push them, but I don't =/
Nightmar, the problem with your giants issues posts are that they're very disagreeable.
The problem with this community IMO is that none of us game together. There's no sense of comradery. In fact, some of the mappers here don't even game, they just make maps. The biggest part of this issue is simply that we're too small a community spread out over too many time zones.
Personally, I don't mind playing crappy maps (well, depending how crappy, no 256/256 2 player maps). It's just that no one here seems to even want to play their own maps. I offer countless times and no one ever takes me up on it.
However, if you want to see how good we've got it here at BWMN, compared to other sites (maybe it'll give you a positive feeling to do some good), just go to WarBoards.org, where it's commonplace to argue the most absurd theory craft you've heard since the 90s.
PS: Who invisibled Radix's post? That was unnecessary =/ modified by PsychoTemplar
I often play games on my maps. And i play with some members here, too. Nightmarjoo should keep up the channel op teambwmn, cuz most of the time it is down. I often found some1 there to play on my maps.
God damn it guys! Now we lost Radix, are you happy? Have you ever wondered why the number of mappers here does not grow?
And all that Crackling, ProTosS4EveR, and ptar have to say is: "stfu", "LOL xD" and "Stfu" and "fuck off. We don't need you. Pls leave. Thx" respectively.
Are you all out of your minds? A tragedy has just happened and this is the way you react?
And not only that, you censor his "going away post"!!!!!
No way! I restored it, and I will do it again if you censor it again. Radix made 20 maps for this web-site, his contribution should not be treated in this way. Shame, shame, shame on those that made him leave and those that celebrate his departure! modified by Lancet
I agree with most of what joel said a few comments above but its all in different respect. you cant really expect everyone to react the same to things and nor can u always be on the same level.
PsychoTemplar really put it in perspective:

I have to agree with this. especially his 2nd paragraph. If everyone made a point to play together we'd be able to be on the same level and we'll also learn to disagree but respect eachother's position. and thats the problem. But with alot of things, you have to work at it. I say we start meeting up in the channel like joel tried to do a bit back. its just that we've done this before and it needed alot of participation from everyone. but i think we can do it.
