I'm wondering if there are any maps that have succesfully made diferent but equal start locations. Or does anyone have any ideas for maps that have start locations such as these, or nats that have fair diferences.
I want to make a map like this, and have alot of ideas, but I'm still newb so don't really know what things outweigh what other things yet.
i think nyzse is referring to like low ground high ground difference.. or diferent expo set up for both bases. but yeah lt wuld def go in that category
Travin and lis did some experiments with it I think, but in they end they changed it because balancing completely different mainbase setups is very very hard. And even if you manage, players would still complain anyway :[
Yea LT is a good example, but I was talking about more extreme stuff, base sizes, mineral count, high ground and lowground would be really hard as it's. diferent expo setups/postions (like lt 6 mineral spots are very diferent). But yea people complaining is a big problem, so you'd only be able to play it with people who knew everything about it =P.
Exactly. Only thing you can do is something like two positions closer together as the other ones, wiht the same expo layout. Still people would complain about different air distance, and with that, auriunits imbalance.
Very hard to create a map that is imbalanced&balanced.
STill i think it should be possible to create a map that is equal but with normal and higround bases. in the end, both are wall-able and/or defendable.
I have a lot in mind for that also, still i never managed to create a good version... hmm... should map for BW again.
Well also with 2 bases being closer togather, you have expansion problems in 1v1, if the person is of one of the far away bases they have to cover more land and protect more land to get an expo in a second base, the close player gets to grab both bases and protect em both from the same locations or a short walking distance. so you have to do more stuff to balance it out for the far bases (better expo's maybe?). Yet that can cause problem in 2v2, although I don't see the problem in making a melee map that is only built for 1v1 even though it has 4 starlocations, so I might try out this idea...
Also maybe we could all work togather on some stuff so we have more people to test balance? any want to help on working with something
