MOTM-4

lol nightmarjoo frostmourne won but it was an imbalanced tham, then woosh started getting points until it reached 31, so i voted woosh to get the "draw" 32-32 but crackling and me think malestrom is quite better :(
since you waited to woosh to get all those votes and reach frostmourne, why don't we wait maelstrom to get more than 32 votes? i can change my vote to malestroms, and if you also do it, it'll have enough points.

Whoosh caught Frostmourne before the competition ended, I didn't "wait" for it to happen. Feel free to change votes. I think Whoosh > burning penis > frostmourne. Frostmourne would be better if you removed that one base and worked on some minor things in it.

Frostmourne, Maelstorm and Whoosh (presented here in alphabetical order), pick the MOTM and 2nd and 3rd place.

LostTampon, Templar, Starparty, Nasty etc....what say yeh?

OK, I watched the replays on Woosh and Frostmourne and I think Frostmourne has better gameplay.

One of the problematic things regarding Woosh is the exit of units from the nat. More than once I saw columns of units being split in two as a result of some units taking one path and other units taking the other path towards the opponent's base. There is also the issue that you can't send units directly to the opponent's main as they will try to go by the area of the mineral block. At least in one replay a player was momentarily messed up by this issue with his scout.

Can we please have other admin opinions, thanks.

Frostmourne is a noob turtle map with more free money than katrina, it's just a mess of ramps and expos with blinding decoration. It's pretty standard, with only slight devience from stock map in its expo layout. It offers nothing new, and decent macro/turtle gameplay at best. Whoosh is actually original, perhaps doesn't have perfect gameplay (editing could help it), but takes risk in having something new. It still works pretty comfortably with the macro gamer's game, but overall is fairly unique. It offers different gameplay.

A 3 player map a "noob" map? I beg to differ, LOL! In fact I think it is a very good application of rotational symetry. The ramp size and placement as well as expo placement is rational.

If you do not count the central minonly (which is the most expossed and presumably the last in preference to be mined), the direction the player has to travel to expo or defend his expos is at right angles to the direction he has to take to attack or the direction from which attacks will come. This is not a map where you expo in the same direction that you leave your main to attack.

The concentration of resources in the player's area of the map is dealt with by that large ramp next to third gas which can be exploited to cut third gas from the rest of the opposing player's area of control. This makes expos in this area not free but vulnerable.

However, I don't think that the ideas behind Woosh or Frostmourne are "new" or "newer" but between the two I prefer Frostmourne.

Maelstrom is also pretty standard, when I played it once with crackling it felt hard to harass, ie very easy to turtle. It's a decent map, but it's super-standard.

"This is not a map where you expo in the same direction that you leave your main to attack" which encourages turtling in tvp.

"This makes expos in this area not free but vulnerable" It comes down to, can terran push protoss out of the area without getting horribly massively anally flanked. If yes, terran gets a min only and a gas expo. If no, the game ends right there. If yes, protoss then has to mass expo, or try something with arbiter/carrier, a little earlier than usual I think. Neither should be too great a problem to deal with given all the money terran should have by that point. The expo layout really benefits protoss initially in tvp, the expos are essentially, free. Terran really can't pressure protoss, while protoss can just mass up. Terran can't move out at a normal time I think, because that area outside the nat is so vulnerable. But once terran is able to move out and secure the min only, he gets the gas expo for free, and is in a strong position, where I don't think protoss can do anything but mass expo and "contain", harass, and hope terran moves out sometime today.

There's just so much money on each player's third, that there isn't too much of an incentive to spread out much, which leads inherently to turtling. However, should the game go on long enough that the third side must be fought over, the less mobile race will have a much harder time securing any new expos than the mobile race. So I think the map is p>t initially, for a brief time maybe t>p, and then p>t again.

zvt should be ok, the nats are a bit open, but zergs can adapt. However, the free money will help terran a lot, and I think actually zerg will be the one to have trouble with taking the third side, unless he is able to use nyduses. The main2nat distance is a little long I think, which should help the mu by giving zerg more time to secure his 3rd and 4th base, allowing him to delay terran's' sidal conquest, allowing him a window to take the other third using hive tech.

I dunno about zvp. I think zvp will be absolutely fine, and will be balanced by the players. The expo layout really doesn't impede the matchup at all imo. The large mains will encourage drops, which could be annoying for p late game, but they'll make do.

Ok I'm kind of irked here, because there's a fucking tie in both motm 4 and 5, and in both of them the authors are doing NOTHING. I'm about to post Sleeping Sun Final motm for the lulz -.-
