Well my idealistic approach of a site that has as little barriers as possible to new users wanting to post is destroyed by evil spam bots. I guess it really doesnt make sense to clean up after them all the time, so both forum and competition require being logged in to post.
As soon as those bots find out how to create accounts, I'd have to make that more complicated too, for now I hope they just won't :/
Suggest you add an option when you register as done in some forums: "are you human?" with a lot of possible answers all saying no, and the correct one being yes. works at other forums :P
I think I know how to prevent that. Right now the input field for Posting stuff is non-existant if not logged in, but when writing into the database I don't check if the user is logged in again. I could do that.
panschk i suggest blocking every non-logged in members' commenting and everything like voting and so. checking IPs and ban the spammers' could alse work, but i dont know.
okay, I think at least 99% of the spam, at least in the competetions, should be gone now. It was really horrible in SP's PIMPmymap competition. Of course I did not delete it manually, I was quite drastic in the end: "DELETE FROM compcom WHERE text LIKE '%http://%'";
So there are some "good" posts that are gone too, but I still think it should be an improvement...
I noticed a lot of spam in the bridges article, could you clean that up too? There is a little in the Antrax Edge too. Panschk > bots indeed, there has been no other non member created spam :)
